Maintenance Assistant

Assist in buildings, equipment, and grounds maintenance and operational preparations.

Summit Grove is a growing camp and conference center, with a small team and family-oriented staff, serving church retreat groups, day camps, and family-oriented events, generally for 30-200 people at a time. 

Job Title: Maintenance Assistant

Role: To assist in buildings, equipment, and grounds maintenance and operational preparations under the supervision of the Facilities Director. Must enjoy working with your hands; possess a positive work ethic and a servant’s heart. This person must also be self-motivated and able to work by themselves or with others. This is a part-time position.

Qualifications:

·         Flexible in work schedule (some weeks may require evenings and weekends.)

Important Skills:

·         Knowledge, experience, and/or willingness to learn in a variety of maintenance disciplines.

·         Attention to detail in cleanliness and upkeep of grounds and buildings for guests.

·         A general knowledge and experience of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and auto/small engine mechanics is helpful.

Responsibilities:

Building, Grounds & Equipment Maintenance:

·         Work with Facilities Director to complete maintenance projects.

·         Perform duties as assigned by Facilities Director and/or Guest Services Manager to prepare spaces for guests.

·         Work with volunteers to prioritize upkeep and improvement of facilities and grounds – including lawn and garden maintenance, beautification, cleaning, trash, cleanup after guests, and ongoing maintenance of grounds and equipment.

·         Other duties may be added or changed depending on person’s skills, abilities, and desires.

Guest Services & Group Preparation:

·         Complete work orders from guest services and other staff to keep the lodging spaces, meeting rooms, kitchens, restrooms, and facilities exceptional for positive guest experiences. 

·         Assist in preparing grounds, facilities and equipment to accommodate upcoming guests, camps, and retreat groups needs. This may include things such as preparing A/V equipment, rearranging floor plans, taking out trash, moving heavy objects, and coordinating with other staff to ensure a space is ready for guests.

Physical Demands:
Able to lift up to 50-pounds and help move bulky or large items as needed. The physical effort typically applied in this job includes: Lifting, Carrying, Reaching, Pulling, Pushing, Stooping, Standing, Bending, Climbing, Walking, Speaking, and Listening.

Reports to: Primary: Facilities Director | Secondary: Operations Manager.

Time:  Part-Time, 20-25 hrs/week, including some Saturdays and Sundays.

Compensation:  TBD, DOE

Summer Camp Counselors & Support Staff

Summer Camp Staffing Opportunities:

Counselors: will lead campers through and participate in daily camp activities, including singing, Bible, nature, and recreation. Daily commitment approx. 7:30 am-5:30 pm. Counselors must possess a solid understanding of the Bible, strong relational skills and lots of enthusiasm. Preferably 16 or older, but persons aged 13-15 can apply for the volunteer role of Staff-in-Training, which has similar responsibilities and will work alongside the Counselors or Support Staff. This role serves Mondays through Fridays including a Sunday evening preparation meeting.

Support staff: will help serve in multiple areas of camp including leading games, chapel, registration, housekeeping, running snack bar, maintenance, serving as photographer, leading worship, and encouragement to all staff and counselors. Individuals must be flexible, take initiative, and have an attitude of service.

Lead Food Services Manager/ Weekend Chef

  • Coordinate with Guest Services Manager to prepare meals for guests and groups
  • Own all aspects of the menu planning and food ordering process
  • Manage all aspects of the meal prep and meal service
  • Prepare and serve all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) during weekends and occasional weekdays
  • Manage the Snack Shack during large outdoor events
  • Clean up meals, put away leftovers, and supervise kitchen and dining room cleanup
  • Train and direct food services volunteers and staff
  • Supervise and double-check work done by food staff
  • Kitchen planning, research, and cost analysis
  • Maintain and build relationships with vendors, food banks, and kitchen suppliers to ensure cost-efficiency
  • Keep stock and inventory of both kitchens (Dining Hall and Lodge Kitchen)
